How to say it?

What would you tell someone who is thinking of joining your old church?

How to say it?

A friend of mine approached me recently and said that someone he had known for years was thinking of joining the OALC. What, he wondered, should he say to him? I suggested that he advise the person to look online.
From your experiences, what would you say to someone on the verge of being drawn in?

PRAY HARD

Postby outtathere on Sun May 17, 2009 10:46 pm

I have just recently left the OALC after 16 years and would tell your friend to PRAY very HARD about joining up with them. I am having a hard time dealing with a doctrine that I have now come to see as being full of holes - that is the right thing to say I guess - a "warning" to your friend, but my gut tells me to tell him RUN!!!!! (the other way)

I would advise that person to wait for one year before making that decision. During that year, he should read the Bible, pray, and then listen to the various preachers on Moody Broadcasting Network. He will hear from them some very sound Biblical teaching, which he can compare with the Bible. After listening to wholesome teaching for one year, I can't see how anyone would stomach the fragmented, twisted doctrine of the OALC. There are also wonderful Christian books by John MacArthur, Adrian Rogers, and many others that are great to read.

In Proverbs, it says, "In the multitude of counselors there is safety." I don't think any one preacher has all the answers & all the right understandings, but the preachers on Moody Broadcasting teach some very solid Word of God. Mostly that person should humble himself before God and earnestly ask for wisdom and clear direction in the way to go. If he sincerely prays and then obeys God's directions, he will not go wrong!
