Part of what I based my faith in the OALC was based on what I had been taught about the history of the laestadian movement.

Relying on the assurance of other people is unwise. Just because Joe tells you your sins are forgiven and assures you that you are going to heaven doesn't mean that you are. Joe is not the judge. God is. God does not need man's testimony about men, because God knows what each of us is. We have no secrets from him.

You are so right! The Biblical reference for that is John 2:25, which
in the NIV says, "He (Jesus) did not need man's testimony about man,
for He knew what was in a man."
