Promises of God--what we can ask for and what we can claim

Does God still perform miracles in our time...?

Promises of God--what we can ask for and what we can claim

Postby Soapbox on Wed Feb 27, 2008 4:42 pm

I had been wondering about the promises of God, what we can be sure of receiving, what we have a right to ask for etc. And lo and behold, God provided the answer...before I had finished wondering. Isn't God wonderful?

I believe if a person asks God for wisdom, God is quick to supply it. This has been my experience.

I was watching a video the other night, the teacher made the statement that God's covenant promises are directed to the people of Israel, the body of Christ, and His children in general. With the right heart, we CAN request the fulfillment of any promise in the entire word of God. We are greatly helped, however, by understanding that God is not obligated Himself to fulfill every promise from Genesis to Revelation to every believer throughout history. We, in the body of Christ, are under the new covenant. God's primary work in our time is to prepare the bride of Christ for her bridegroom. His concern is for out spiritual well-being and growth. He doesn't want us to want anything more than we want Him. So if our hearts were pure in our devotion to Him, He could give us all kinds of material blessings. But if we were honestly that pure, we probably wouldn't want them.

When I learn more I will post that too!

Good post, Soapbox! I believe there is a verse which says all God's promises are yes and amen. How will we know what these are unless we read the Scriptures.

I think this is the bible passage referred to above:For no matter how many promises God has made, they are "Yes" in Christ. And so through him the "Amen" is spoken by us to the glory of God.
